Fall 2017 Trend Guide

PHOTO 1It’s officially Fall! Time for pumpkin spice lattes, apple picking, scarves & boots!! I’m not mad about it.

Truthfully, I’ve been waiting as long as possible to write this blog post because I’ve been in denial over the fact that I now need to wear a jacket when I leave my apartment. BUT I just booked a flight to Tulum next month because I know my beach bum is going to need it to get me through the NYC Winter!

PHOTO 4With cooler weather brings new trends so I’m excited to share my 5 favorite trends of the Fall season with you along with 25 of my favorite Fall finds! The best part? They are all under $100! I repeat…ALL UNDER $100!! Some of these I recently purchased for myself and some of them I sell in my online boutique www.MoonlightGypsyShop.com!

Are you ready?? Bring on cozy nights by the fireplace & hot cocoa!

Unless you live under a rock, I’m sure you’ve noticed that the top trend for Fall is VELVET! I’m loving the dark rich jewel tones because I feel like they’re easier to style, plus deep wine and navy colors typically look great on everyone. If you’re looking to make more of a fashion statement, step out in emerald green velvet which is one of the hottest new colors for the season!

2. Victoria’s Secret Velvet Wicked Unlined Bra ($39.50)
3. 19 Cooper Ruffle Velvet Dress at Nordstrom ($89)
4. Moonlight Gypsy Velvet Quilted Shoulder Bag ($50)
5. Moonlight Gypsy Velvet Boho Headband ($16)

Check out my curated Moonlight Gypsy velvet shop HERE!

This is such a fun trend of Fall! I’ve seen everything from studs, embroidery and glitter stars on dresses, tops, footwear and accessories. It’s a fun way to add some character to your look and these are super easy items to pair with basics.
1. JustFab ‘Jacinta’ Star Booties ($59.95 but $39.95 if you’re a VIP member!)

3. Moonlight Gypsy Moon & Star Choker Necklace ($18)
4. Nordstrom B.P. Mini Star Stud Faux Leather Backpack ($45)
5. Steve Madden Star Sneaker at DSW ($49.98)

I don’t consider myself a “sexy girl” but theres something about knee high boots that make me feel hot! Does anyone else feel that way?! Because I’m short, I feel like they make me look taller which is nice for someone so petite (I’m 5’3″!) I recently bought a pair of flat and heeled over the knee boots in black (of course…because that’s all we wear in NYC during the winter!)
1. JustFab ‘Tibbie’ Over The Knee Velvet Heeled Boot ($74.95 but $42.95 for VIP members!)

P.s. Can you tell where I purchase most of my shoes from?!
Shop Moonlight Gypsy Crochet Leg Warmers to pair with your Fall boots HERE!

Embroidery has been trending for a while now but lately I’ve been obsessed with the mixture of embroidery on lace and mesh. Theres something about the combo of sheerness and floral designs that make me feel feminine and pretty! Pair any of these items with a leather skirt or pant and you’re good to go!
1. Zara Multicolored Lace Top ($24.90)
2. Moonlight Gypsy Embroidered Choker Necklace ($16)
3. Moonlight Gypsy Embroidered Flower Mesh Top ($32)
4. Moonlight Gypsy Embroidered Sweater ($58)
5. JustFab ‘Jacinta’ Embroidered Bootie ($59.95 but $39.50 for VIP members!)

There’s a lot of vintage & Parisian influence emerging lately in the fashion world which I am absolutely LOVING! I’m also not hating the fact that Coco Chanel probably had something to do with it. 😉
Pearls are feminine and elegant – plus, they add a girly finish to any outfit or accessory.
1. Moonlight Gypsy Pearl Ruffle Sleeve Sweater ($48)
2. Moonlight Gypsy Pearl Boho Flower Tie ($10)
3. Zara Pearl Sweater Dress ($49.90)
4. Moonlight Gypsy Pearl & Rhinestone Pom Pom Hat ($42)

Jane’s Carousel

One of my favorite things about living in NYC is that I’m constantly running across new places to check out and explore. New restaurants, new sweet treats, new brunch spots, new cocktail bars and rooftop lounges…the list goes on and on! I’ve lived in NYC for 8 years but even though there’s new stuff popping up each day, there’s still a bucket list of historical places or sites I try to see on the regular.
FullSizeRender (80)Jane’s carousel in Brooklyn Bridge Park has been one of those places for me and I finally went to check it out last weekend!
Jane’s carousel was built in 1922 but has since then been restored and opened in Brooklyn Bridge Park in 2011. Tickets are only $2 a person and the ride includes a beautiful scenic view of New York City. YES, of course I rode it and YES I resorted to my inner 6 year old when I jumped on my chosen horse!
Janes Carousel NYCWhether you’re a tourist or a long time New Yorker, Brooklyn Bridge Park is a must see! There are tons of great restaurants and shopping within walking distance to the carousel. My personal favorites inclue the original Grimaldi’s Pizza (for some reason it just tastes SO MUCH BETTER here than any other location!), Gran Electrica for Mexican & River Cafe which has a gorgeous waterfront view.

bridge 2I also had the pleasure of getting my hair and makeup done at Jeffery Stein Salon on the Upper East Side before heading to Brooklyn! The salon is gorgeous and the staff was super friendly upon arrival. Not only were they experts at nailing the look I was going for, but I’m am in LOVE with these braids and curls which were perfect for my Bohemian style look. Highly recommend!

Fall is officially starting in a week and cooler weather has already been kicking in here and there but I am NOT excited about it. Still dreaming of the day I can have 80 degree weather year round…AND a beach!! On that note, I shot this look last weekend that I’m absolutely in love with, not the mention the incredible view of the city from Brooklyn Bridge Park in Dumbo!

Summer isn’t over!

There have been a couple days this week when I’ve left my apartment or office and felt a distance chill in the air. I know it’s not Summer saying goodbye yet, but the cooler weather has definitely made me realize that Fall is creeping right around the corner. With only 4 weeks left in my favorite season, I’m being 110% honest when I say that I am in no way excited about Fall. {As I’m writing this I’m actually cringing at the thought of another East Coast Winter and am genuinely considering packing a bag and moving to Hawaii! Whose with me?!}

I’m going to assume that I’m probably the ONLY fashion blogger living in New York City who isn’t excited about crisp Autumn weather or the fact that I finally get to bust out plaid scarves and leather boots that have been tucked away in the back my tiny closet or shoved into a full suitcase hidden under my bed. I am, however, one basic b whose excited about pumpkin spice lattes, velvet booties and embroidered loafers which I will save for a later blog post! 😉

In my final weeks of Summer I have been OBSESSED with sets like this adorable Free People flower bomb set HERE!

I’m also currently shopping around for jumpsuits and overalls (2 things I would probably never try but am looking to step out of my normal comfort zone and find unique pieces to transition into Fall.) Any recommendations would be much appreciated!

Sets are one of the best purchases you can make right now because they’re so easy to mix and match with things you already have in your closet while you transition your wardrobe into Fall.  I’m obsessed with these flower bomb bottoms because it’s a high-waisted scort that I’ve been pairing back to my favorite Led Zeppelin tee & crop tops. During the Fall, I cant wait to wear it with block heel boots and a long sleeve crop top sweater!

The off the shoulder crop top is adorable with jeans and wedges but I’ve also worn it our during the day with denim shorts and flat sandals. Honestly, you cant go wrong either way! Shop accessories from my look below as well as some of my favorite sets available now!

Summer short shorts

vowboy bootsI have to be honest..it kind of breaks my heart that retailers are already starting to entrance in their Pre-Fall merchandise. HELLO?! IT’S JULY!!
Dont get me wrong…I am SO excited for all the lush velvet and plaid galour that is to come, but I’d like to enjoy Summer mode for AT LEAST another 2 months without being reminded that September is in 6 weeks! Whose with me?!
rail 2
walking awayAs you can see from many of my past blog and instagram photos, I have been L-I-V-I-N-G in my One Teapsoon denim cut offs that I bought from Planet Blue in SoHo last month. If I could, I would wear denim cut offs 365 days a year {literally..although I would prefer a bikini but that’s another blog post} which prompted me to write a post about my favorite Summer shorts and all the amazing trends surrounding them right now. These are not just boring cut offs…these are embroidered, patchwork, destructed & embellished denim shorts from my top 5 go to retailers when it comes to denim shorts. Who knows-maybe within the next few weeks we’ll get lucky and score some of these babies on sale!

Zara is killin’ it in the denim shorts game. They have the most fashion styles of denim shorts if you’re not looking to play it safe as a plain Jane. Here are my picks!
Average price point: $39.90

My fav branded denim shorts from UO are Levis and BDG!They always seem to fit JUST RIGHT and they have a nice offering of high waisted or low rise (my personal fav to compliment my hourglass shape).
Average price point: $49-$69
My favs from BDG: {How CRAZY cute are these retro pin ups on the right?!}
My favs from Levis:
Also, side note: Can we talk about these WHY THE F Urban would EVER consider selling these on their website??? Is this a joke?!

And NO I did not link the photo to their shopable webpage for you because if you even considered clicking on it to shop, I might slap you!!

This is hands down my favorite brand for denim shorts. My fit picks are their low rise bandits and bonitas! If you havent tried these shorts yet, you can thank me later!! They are a little on the pricey side but SO SO SO SO worth the splurge!
Average price: $98-$200

#MyGoTo. You know I love Free People. In fact, I’m 98% sure every blog I’ve written so far has mentioned FP! The last ones obvi aren’t even denim but I love them so decided to throw them in to mix it up!
Average price point: $58-198
Also, they have an awesome assortment of One Teaspoon shorts if you don’t find what you’re looking for on the One Teaspoon website OR if they’re sold out of your size!

If I can’t find what I’m looking for elsewhere, I can always count on Nordstrom. My top brand picks that I typically shop here are Paige, Rag & Bone & TopShop. {Below}
Average Price Point: $44-375

Bohemian Style: Off the Shoulder

Hello lovelies..I hope you all had an amazing fourth of July!
It’s been SO hot here in NYC but I’ve been LOVING all the off the shoulder tops and cute dresses I’ve been seeing EVERYWHERE! I’ve been living in off the shoulder anything and everything since Spring and it’s definitely a trend that won’t be going away any time soon.
denimI compiled my favorite Bohemian off the shoulder tops, dresses and rompers from my favorite brands below. I’m warning you in advance though..be prepared to pull out your wallet! I purchased a few of these beauties for myself last week and cant wait to wear them out. Happy shopping!!

Planet Blue is where I shop when I’m looking for more of a boutique-like shopping experience and when I’m missing the Southern California sunshine! I actually didn’t realize until last month when I was in their NYC store that their headquarters is located in Malibu..my favorite place to get away on the weekends when I was living in Santa Monica last year! They specialize in Bohemian clothing and although most of their pieces are a minimum of $100, I promise they’re worth the splurge! In addition to their gorgeous clothing, they have some amazing accessories as well.
